Emilie Amundson is currently Chief of Staff at the Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Prior to this position, she was Director of Literacy and Mathematics. Emilie also served as English Language Arts Consultant for the DPI and, before that, as an English educator and school founder in New York City. Emilie holds an M.A. in Education Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Literacy Studies at UW-Madison.
She has presented on literacy related topics both statewide and nationally, and has taught graduate level courses on literacy-related subjects through Edgewood College. Emilie has served on multiple literacy-related boards, including the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English, and the Assembly of State Consultants of English Language Arts. A life-long literacy educator and lover of literature, she joined the WLI Board in 2012.
