Representative John F. Townsend, winner of the Literacy Advocate of the Year Award in 2005, is committed to increasing literacy in the state of Wisconsin. This compassionate man helps raise funds in Fond du Lac, encourages development of new initiatives in the government, and fully supports what the literacy councils do. He sees literacy as having increasing importance in the manufacturing industry which is a large part of the state economy.
He says, improving literacy will help workers in the industry and help Wisconsin compete globally. He encourages people to support literacy councils not only by example, but also by supporting community based organizations, and encourages learners by ensuring that the councils, especially here in Fond du Lac, conduct sessions in the highest degree of privacy. Townsend is honored by the award and will continue to work on furthering literacy in Wisconsin.
