Literacy Volunteers – Chippewa Valley's Story

Staff members from Literacy Volunteers – Chippewa Valley, Western Dairyland Head Start and the YMCA were awarded Collaborative Team of the Year by the Wisconsin Division for Early Childhood and the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association on October 23, 2009.

This award recognizes the Family Literacy Program and honors teams that cross both agency and discipline to come together to improve services to young children and their families. Family Literacy positively shapes adult caregivers’ parenting skills by including parenting education in the adult classroom every day, plus weekly 90 minute parenting class. Eau Claire Family Literacy’s primary goal is to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty by helping families improve their basic literacy skills.
