Wisconsin Literacy Received a COVID-19 Community Outreach Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services

Wisconsin Literacy received a COVID-19 Community Outreach Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. The goal of the project is to address COVID-19 information, misinformation and vaccination hesitancy in 35 communities statewide.

Wisconsin Health Literacy, a division of Wisconsin Literacy, will co-create and implement with community partners, a COVID-19 vaccination train-the-trainer (TtT) program with easy-to-read curriculum, talking points, and other resources that literacy staff and tutors can share with their communities. Stan Hudson, Director of Health Literacy, said, “Community leaders must meet people where they are and be able to address the local fears and concerns about the vaccine.”

The TtT will include guidance on how to find local vaccine registries and locations recognizing this information varies by county. The TtT will also provide guidance on how to employ informational exchanges at existing community events, churches, schools, libraries, community centers, and local businesses.

By working with member agencies, targeted community organizations, and the Marshfield Clinic Health System’s AmeriCorps program, the project will reach immigrant, Hispanic, Indigenous, and rural adults statewide.
