Celebration of Literacy

Every year, adults reach out for help to get better jobs, to educate themselves, support their children in school and to end the cycle of low literacy. The Celebration of Literacy event honors their courage and the efforts of literacy advocates across the state.

Each Celebration, we honor outstanding individuals like these 2016 winners:

  • Tanisha Schmoeckel from Central Wisconsin Literacy Council who improved her skills and eventually completed the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program at Mid-State Technical College.
  • Marissa Santiago completed the HSED (High School Equivalency Diploma) program at Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services after losing her factory job.  Now she says that education is “addicting” and enrolled in Milwaukee Area Technical College.

The Luncheon will take place at Monona Terrace in Madison on Wednesday, April 25.  In addition to recognizing literacy achievements throughout Wisconsin, guests will hear keynote speaker, Dr. Dipesh Navsaria, share the message of Early Literacy and how parents of any reading level have the power to build their child’s brain.

We hope you can join us for what promises to be an inspiring event!
