How Health Literacy Can Help You and the People You Care for with Dementia

Wisconsin Health Literacy (WHL) facilitated virtual and in-person workshops  to support and strengthen the health literacy of our many unpaid caregivers across Wisconsin. WHL tailored its "Improving Alzheimer's Disease and other Dementia Care through Health Literacy" curriculum to unpaid caregivers through a co-creation team.

This 60-minute workshop for unpaid caregivers, educates on ways to improve the health, health care, and caregiving for people who have dementia. Topics include:

  • What is health literacy?
  • Who is at risk for low health literacy?
  • How does improved health literacy help caregivers?
  • Increased medication safety
  • What can caregivers do to improve communications?
  • How can caregivers help those they care for with memory?
  • Special health literacy culture and language considerations
  • Resources for caregivers

A special thanks to our program partners at the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin and the Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources.

Funding was provided by the RRF Foundation for Aging initiative.

This program is no longer grant funded. WHL may be able to provide services for a fee. Please contact us for more information.
