Tips for Pharmacists Working with Refugee and Immigrant Populations
It is important that all patients know how to properly take their medication. This can be challenging for those who have lived in the United States all their lives and English is their first language. Imagine how much more difficult this can be for refugees and immigrants who may be taking unfamiliar medications or struggling with a health care system very different from the one in their home country.
To help bridge communication and understanding between pharmacists and refugee and immigrant populations, Wisconsin Health Literacy (WHL) worked with Omar Eliwa, RPh at Hayat Pharmacy in Milwaukee to discuss and find solutions to potential language, cultural, time and institutional barriers in the following video.
