Previous Summits
Since 2004, Wisconsin Health Literacy has organized a biennial health literacy Summit. The Summit is the largest health literacy conference in the Midwest and aims to provide practical strategies for improving health literacy to a variety of professionals and motivate attendees to take action. Attendees include professionals from healthcare, public health, research, adult literacy, libraries, community organizations, health insurance, and health information technology.
2019 Health Literacy Summit: "A Sharper View Through the Lens of Health Literacy"
In the 2019 Health Literacy Summit, experts in the field took us beyond our everyday discussions to broaden our scope on health literacy. Six plenary sessions, 25 breakout sessions, a poster presentation, and networking opportunities provided attendees with the opportunity to learn more about evidence-based interventions in health literacy, as well as to network with experts and colleagues in the field across the nation.
Annie Griffiths, National Geographic Photographer, provided an inspiring end to the Summit with the presentation Photography Without Borders: Exposing and Addressing the Social Determinants of Health. Some plenary and breakout sessions were recorded.
2017 Wisconsin Health Literacy Summit: "Health Literacy: A Critical Link in Patient Engagement."
The 2017 Health Literacy Summit focused on how improved health literacy can help individuals become more engaged with their health and healthcare. Seven plenary sessions, including Keynote Speaker Anne Fadiman, author of The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, 26 breakout sessions, a poster presentation, and networking opportunities all provided attendees with the opportunity to learn more about health literacy and engaging patients.
This Summit featured a pre-Summit event Improving Prescription Drug Labels to Help Patient Understanding, which focused on the role of prescription medication labels in improving how patients take their medicine. Some sessions were recorded.
